sudan
Producer | Live Electronica
The pandemic years gave rise to a host of bedroom artists who wrote and performed music with an intimacy that the world desperately needed. Mumbai-based producer, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist sudan aka Pritpal Sudan was one among several thousands of those kinds of artists but he stood out.
From one lens, sudan’s catalog could be hard to categorize, but we say the artist simply revels in experimentation, with plenty of nods to electronic and synth-driven music. Absorbing the production and songwriting prowess of artists like Tennyson, Tom Misch and Eden, sudan’s work has a fluidity that could’ve been heard in his previous band, Khoya Firdaus, as well.
Over time, sudan’s become an indispensable part of Indian independent music, sitting in the producer’s chair with artists like Alif, Sidharth Bendi, pruthvi, and other times, backing them as well as rising singer-songwriters like Anoushka Maskey on stage.
His debut album sudan? proved to many that here’s a producer who’s as comfortable and wieldy on stage as he is in the studio. From downtempo to dancefloor-friendly tunes, the 13-song album also brings in fellow emerging Indian indie talents like LAVI and L’nee Golay for an unpredictably good listen.
